Kung Fu and Taijichuan (Tai Chi) FAQ

About the school
The martial arts curriculum at Morning Martial Arts is drawn from the ancient art of Shaolin kung fu. We own a genuine copy of Shi Deqian's Encyclopedia of Shaolin Martial Arts, recognized by northern China Shaolin monks as the most definitive publication of their system. This is the basis for our fundamental training, both open handed and weapons.

Our students are never rushed to their next belt level and can truly advance at their own pace. Our instructors work hard to personalize the curriculum to each student.

We offer a fun, safe environment where people can train together to get in better shape and learn to defend themselves while maintaining an ancient and beautiful art.

Our training includes empty hand forms, two-person drills, weapons, weapons defense, qigong, taiji, bagua, and hsing-i. Some weapons covered are staff, nunchucks, short stick, chain-whip, and broadsword.

Keith Brewer: Instructor
Keith Brewer has been studying martial arts since he was 10 years old. His training began in the streets, including the use of empty hand and weapons defense. He went on to train in the United States and Japan, studying judo, karate, taekwondo, and aikido.

Keith trained in traditional Chinese kung fu at the Chinese Shaolin Center from 2006 to 2011 and obtained a 2nd-degree black rating, as well as a certification to instruct.

He is particularly fond of the internal styles, such as tai chi, bagua, and qi gong, for their health and longevity benefits as well as their combat applications.

Alicia Brewer: Instructor
Alicia Brewer trained in traditional Chinese kung fu, tai chi, and qi gong at the Chinese Shaolin Center from 2006 to 2011.

Since achieving her second-degree black sash, she has been helping her husband, Keith Brewer, instruct at Morning Martial Arts.

She especially enjoys the weapons training and conditioning aspects of kung fu, as well as the self-confidence and mental focus it has given her in other aspects of her life.
